THE BEST SOLUTION
FOR YOUR BUSINESS
LEADING BRAND OF ALUMINIUM WHEELS
Pioneer of the aluminum industry, we are the ones who invented the forged aluminum truck wheels in 1948, and since then we have been constantly reinventing ourselves.
With an 8 000 tons press, the block is forged into a wheel shape. Once forged, the wheels are heat-treated to maximize overall mechanical strengths. The Howmet Aerospace forging process aligns the grain flow of aluminium with the shape of the wheel. This process results in wheels with unrivalled forged strength that withstand the most severe tests.
Compared to steel and cast aluminum wheels, Alcoa® Wheels offer many benefits.
THE LIGHTEST ON THE SCALE - UP TO 47% LIGHTER THAN STEEL
By switching from steel to aluminium Alcoa® Wheels you can easily save up to 51% in weight, depending on the wheel size.
All these allow you to:
Increase the vehicle’s payload
Reduce your operating costs
Boost your profitability

THE TOUGHEST ON THE ROAD
High strength test results reveal that Alcoa® Wheels are 5 times stronger than steel:
Forged Alcoa® Wheels withstand a load of 71 200 kg before deforming; Steel wheels start to deform already at 13 600 kg.
Impact test results/Japanese JWL test simulates a vehicle hitting a high curb at a speed of 50 km/h.
A 910 kg weight is dropped onto the tyre and wheel assembly. Steel wheels
show excessive rim deformation and air loss
Alcoa® Wheels pass the test successfully.
GREENER AND CLEANER - WE SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
FUEL EFFICIENCY AND IMPROVED TIRE PERFORMANCE
FUEL EFFICIENCY AND IMPROVED TIRE PERFORMANCE
Choosing forged aluminum wheels comes with significant benefits for car parks, manufacturers and local governments, as well as for the environment. Alcoa® Wheels are used on many hybrid buses. The essential parameters are systematically measured and compared with buses equipped with steel wheels.
For a period of 6 to 7 months, there were reported significant fuel savings of over 1% for hybrid buses, defining additional cost reductions and a great contribution to a cleaner environment.
of CO2 emissions
Replacement of 6 steel wheels with Alcoa® Wheels during the lifespan of a 2-axle diesel bus – 12 years and 750,000 km.
of CO2 emissions
Replacement of 10 steel wheels with Alcoa® Wheels during the lifespan of a 3-axle diesel articulated bus – 12 years and 750,000 km.
of CO2 emissions
Replacement of 12 steel wheels with Alcoa® Wheels during the lifespan of a 2-axle diesel truck (2×5 years) and a 3-axle semi-trailer (10 years) and 1.300.000 km.
Alcoa® Wheels are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM certified, which confirms that the products are safe and they protect the environment.
Alcoa® Wheels run better and therefore contribute to less tire wear than a stamped and welded steel rim. It also contributes positively to rolling resistance.
And this is not all! Aluminum is 3 times more conductive than steel, being the preferred material for laptop radiators and radiator fins for cars and trucks, as it helps dissipate the heat.
Better heat dissipation extends tire life, braking performance and brake pad life.
GREAT LOOKS, EASY MAINTENANCE
Alcoa® Wheels are available with proprietary Dura-Bright® EVO, surface treatment. This treatment allows the wheels to look bright and shiny for years without polishing.
Maintenance is extremely easy thanks to the enhanced protection of the aluminium surface.
Dura-Bright® EVO Wheels can withstand cleaning chemicals with pHs between 2 and 12.
Dura-Bright® is not a coating, but a surface treatment that penetrates the aluminum and thus becomes an integral part of the wheel. It will not chip, crack, peel or corrode as usual coatings.
Dura-Bright® treatment is available on almost all sizes of Alcoa® Wheels. See the Alcoa® Wheels specification sheet for more information.
MORE EYE-CATCHING SOLUTIONS FOR CUSTOMERS
Howmet Aeropsapce’s advanced LvL ONE® finishing technology results in a brilliant finish with a smoother and glossier surface than Brushed.
LvL ONE® wheels require the usual procedure when it comes to maintenance.
If a shiny surface is desired, polishing is needed.
The wheel looks great and comes with the same advantages as the other
finishes of Alcoa® Wheels.
ADDITIONAL PROTECTION FOR AN EVEN LONGER SERVICE LIFE
Dura-Flange® Alcoa Wheels have a proprietary treatment that provides a protective shield to reduce rim flange wear, giving them up to double the lifetime compared to other aluminium wheels under the same conditions.
Dura-Flange® Wheels are easily recognizable by the
“Rim Wear Protected” sticker.
Part numbers ending in DF are Dura-Flange® treated.
DISC BRAKE PROTECTION AND INCREASED WHEEL LOAD
WorkHorse® designed without ventilation holes to protect the disc brakes from sand and gravel.
Mainly used on construction vehicles with disc brakes. Available in wheel sizes: 22.5”x9.00 ” (4335 kg max. load) and 22.5”x11.75”, offset 120 mm.
